Adobe PhotoshopInspired by Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man (1964) by Marshall McLuhan, this publication explores the idea that the medium itself—rather than the content—shapes how communication influences society and human perception.
The visual approach focuses on physical tools that function as mediums of communication, including a typewriter, keyboard, printer, and camera. Most images were photographed and scanned directly from these objects, then transformed through changes in scale, color, and texture. The primary typeface used is American Typewriter, referencing the mechanical origins of written media, while handwritten pull quotes highlight key ideas.
The cover design uses keyboard keys to form the word “Media” on the front cover, while the back rearranges the remaining letters from Understanding Media within the empty spaces. These visual elements emphasize McLuhan’s concept that the tools used to create messages ultimately shape how those messages are experienced.

Scott Fitzgerald—This Side of Paradise, The Great Gatsby, and Tender Is the Night—which explore recurring themes of desire, ambition, love, and disillusionment during the Jazz Age. Although each story takes place in a different setting and stage of life, together they trace a progression from youthful idealism to illusion and eventual emotional decline, reflecting both the spirit of the era and Fitzgerald’s own experiences.
The visual approach draws from Art Deco aesthetics to capture the glamour of the 1920s, while abstracted black-and-white photographic backgrounds create a sense of timelessness and fragility. Each cover uses imagery connected to the story’s setting: a yacht scene for Tender Is the Night referencing its wealthy European resort lifestyle, a luxurious mansion interior for The Great Gatsby symbolizing Gatsby’s wealth, and Princeton University for This Side of Paradise, reflecting Fitzgerald’s own college years.
Three different Art Deco–inspired typefaces were used across the series. Color choices also reflect key elements of each story: a warm reddish-orange sunset for Tender Is the Night, green inspired by the symbolic green light in The Great Gatsby, and a soft purple with pink tones for This Side of Paradise, evoking youthful romance. A color layer between the title and the background image ensures legibility on the front cover, while the back cover centers the author’s name with a minimal border treatment.

ProcreateDuring my co-op at the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences, I contributed to Omnia, the alumni magazine for the School of Arts and Sciences. The publication highlights the impact and relevance of liberal arts at Penn through stories about faculty research, alumni, and current issues.
I designed two editorial spreads for the magazine, including “A Champion for the Liberal Arts,” which features an interview with Peter Struck, Stephen A. Levin Family Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. I also created layouts for the recurring sections “Insomnia” and “Last Look.”
In addition to layout design, I illustrated small spot illustrations for the article “Emergency Response,” which discusses collaborative approaches to addressing complex global challenges such as climate change. These illustrations were designed to support the editorial content while adding visual clarity and engagement to the spreads.



Water  Crisis Booklet

Adobe PhotoshopThis booklet explores the issue of the global water crisis, focusing on how human behavior affects the water environment and contributes to environmental damage. Through editorial layout and visual storytelling, the booklet communicates the causes and consequences of water scarcity.
Drought imagery and a sans-serif typeface were used to emphasize the seriousness of the issue. A structured grid system, clear typographic hierarchy, and figure–ground reversal help guide the reader through the content while reinforcing the message of the article.

Adobe PhotoshopShout is a magazine that delivers social messages through editorial design. This issue features the article “Why You Should Care About Vegan Beauty” by Andrea Cheng, which discusses the impact of beauty products and the growing interest in vegan alternatives.
For the spreads, I incorporated imagery of fruits and vegetables to visually connect with the theme of vegan ingredients and natural beauty. The cover design plays with typography: the letter “O” in the title is rotated 90 degrees to resemble the shape of lips speaking, reinforcing the idea of “shouting” or sharing a message. The front and back covers are designed as inverted compositions, creating a visual relationship between the two sides.
